हाल ही में फेफड़े के संक्रमण की वजह से अस्पताल में भर्ती हुए दिलीप साहब को डिस्चार्ज कर दिया गया। उनके जन्मदिन पर अमिताभ बच्चन से लेकर अनुपम खेर तक सबने उन्हें विश किया और उनकी सलमाती की कामना की। ट्रेजडी किंग और अभिनय सम्राट के नाम से मशहूर दिलीप कुमार 11 दिसंबर को 92 साल के हो गए। उनका बॉलीवुड करियर फिल्म 'ज्वार भाटा' (1944) से शुरू हुआ था। हालांकि, इस फिल्म से वो किसी का ध्यान नहीं खींच पाए थे। साल 1947 में उन्होंने 'जुगनू' में काम किया।

दिलीप साहब ऐसे अभिनेता है जिन्होंने 19 बार फिल्मफेयर अवॉर्ड के लिए नॉमिनेट किया गया। इनमें से 8 बार वो ये अवॉर्ड जीतने में भी कामयाब रहे। पहली बार उन्हें 'दाग' (1952) के लिए बेस्ट एक्टर का अवॉर्ड मिला।
